Just placed my order. I was able to test drive both a DCT and 6MT. A year ago I would have bought without seeing one in person. No hesitation. But i couldn't get one without markup. I ordered my N54 6MT E90 before the engine had made it to the US. In the year of waiting I had a chance to drive 981 and 718 Cayman which are both awesome. So I needed to drive the m2 to be sure.

I was able to test drive a manual (MG) last April and immediately placed a $1,000 deposit (manual LBB) at MSRP knowing supply would be virtually non-existent. It took until August to be produced and went from a 2016 to 2017 model during the wait. I had a 2000, 2006 and 2012 3-series and probably would have waited for the next 2018 3-series, but this was a chance to own an 'affordable' M car that had tremendous write-ups in the press. I've kept the 2012 and only use the M2 in nice weather for the (9) non-winter months (gets a non-use insurance discount). It's a blast to drive and having always owned manuals, so I never considered a DCT.

This car is ultra rare in the Bay Area right now and no dealership had an M2 in 600 mile radius.
Bought mine without ever seeing or test driving one.

I got one of the first ones last April. I saw an LBB at the international auto show and wasn't in love but I was committed so I took delivery anyway without test driving. I still have a love/hate relationship with it. Oh well.

I drove my dentists M2 around the block (he knows I'm a cca guy yada yada, cool none the less). I've driven a fair share of nice/quick fast cars... the M2 just nails that originaljack of all trades ethos. If I had one, it would be the only car I owned unless I kept my very old 330i for winter time.

Saw one on the showroom floor at my dealer. I got to sit in it but not drive it. I sometimes have regrets but not because of the car itself, which I love. This is a weekend car for me, not my daily driver, so it was somewhat of an impulse splurge for me. If you knew me you would know that I'm not an impulse splurge kind of person. So occasionally I say to myself "what the hell was I thinking?" But then I drive it and the regrets go away.

Saw a LBB in person, but didn't drive one until I took delivery. I came out of a manual f30 328.

Did performance center delivery, so I drove a dct m2 on the track, and that thing was incredible. Felt so planted, quick, and easy to control. And the shifts are seamless.

My m2 is a manual and my daily, and I have no regrets, it drives like a dream.

Bought mine may 2016. Hadn't driven seen or even sat in a 2 series before it arrived.

I did it over the phone and only met the dealer two weeks before it arrived.

No regrets

I went to the Brussels Autoshow in january last year to show to my wife what I was so enthusiastic about the whole time , but I already ordered it a few weeks before(end '15, a blue one). So I was a bit like: What will she say?(I didn't see it in person either off course)

She liked it(I'm from a 1M) and she immediately said when she saw the blue one at that show: That's the colour you have to choose.

I was very happy to see it in person already and never thought about cancelling the order off course anyway.

Mine was delivered in may last year.

Cheers

I was able to see a M2 in person but not drive one before I ordered. I had driven two 228i manuals (one with the Msport package and one without). I was coming from a E89 Z4 with the N54 and a manual, but I also still have my F10 535i manual. When you like manuals, it can be really hard to find one to test drive, so this is definitely not the first time I've purchased without test driving (e.g. the F10 I test drove in automatic but never could find a manual before ordering). Basically, if you like the proportions and feel of the 2 series but think it needs more presence and everything kicked up a notch, the M2 will not disappoint.

I think the M2 should tick those last two boxes, although I'm a shade concerned about Houston roads and the former suspension.
You have nothing to worry about. Houston roads are like glass compared to a badly maintained British B road.

I rode and drove one in Germany last summer. I was in line for an allocation spot then. It was good and bad in that it confirmed how awesome the car was but made the wait even worse.

Saw one in the show room after I had ordered mine, as it was delivered and waiting for owner pick up. Never drove one before picking up and paying for mine. I drove a 135i up until then and loved it - thinking the M2 would just be more-better in every way and that would make me happy. It was. Absolutely no regrets.

Ordered mine last Oct in LBB with a few options. Dealer had just sold their demo car before I came in so no test drive.

Picked my car up last week which then went straight to the detailers. Love the colour and the way it drives - absolutely no regrets.

I remember test drives at my dealership were only given if you had already placed an order which on the face of it was arse about face, but that was the way back then. Funny how time changes things.

Am lucky that the main dealer had blue grey and white, i was so excited especially for blue and grey they look way better than photo. I did sit and start the engine....but that's it!

Asked the sales man (which is a good person who knew me for long time) for a drive INSIDE the dealer parking. He said that i should be thankful for the letting me start the engine to hear the sound

I tried to convince him that am concerned about some reviews saying it's GOOD FOR TRACK BUT NOT FOR STREET and i just want to go to those 2 speed bumps inside your parking lot. But M2 test drive is out of question cause all the cars are already sold out for customers.

Seating position, wish the car was smaller. I know it's based off a 2 series body obvi but I still wish it was more compact. Anytime I'm parked next to a Porsche, vette, etc, the car is so noticeably bloated/large. I don't fully regret it. I would feel bad and so would my wallet if I was putting these kind of miles on a Porsche. I do regret not waiting for a manual though.
