Picking up my 2007 997 on Saturday

Per the title, I am picking up my first Porsche on Sat. am. I found a Silver on black 6mt, well-optioned 997.

31k, one-owner and maintained. I need to get on the forums...anyone have a preference of Rennlist vs. 6speed?

Hmmm...common problem?

Any idea the cost? There are 2 people "close" to me who can do it.

My first buy will be some sort of unit to add BT and Sat. radio...maybe Denison or some sort of OEM retrofit.

You're a brave soul if it hasn't had the IMS issue addressed yet

I was under the impression the 997 cars weren't affected by the IMS deal.

early 997s were, supposedly they went to a large IMS in 2008? 997.2 (post '09) don't have an IMS.

From what I have read, 2006+ didn't have as much of an issue. I will look into it.

2009 Gen 2 997's are clear from IMS issues.
I strongly reccommend performing this retrofit !!!
LN engineering has the kit.
Especially since your car has low mileage.
Could be a 2500 - $3000 job.
Better than $20k for a new engine.

I was fortunate enough for this to happen to me when I had 3 weeks left on my CPO on my 2005 997S.
Got a brand new engine from Stuttgart.

lennyf This man speaks truth.

See you on the P-car forums OP! Enjoy that 997 with its glorious hydraulic steering and wonderful size.

Oh, pics or ban.

2008 is the last year of the IMS issue.

Failure rate has been documented as a high ~10%. Which may not sound bad to some but relative to the auto industry, is abysmal.

If that goes, you are looking at a new engine, period.

Turbos and GT cars were spared from the IMS debacle.

How's your clutch? While the engine is out, I'd inspect the diff, clutch, water pump, coils, plugs, belts, and rear main seal. Replace as necessary.

Welcome to Porsche ownership!

Not only IMS, but bore scoring will keep me from considering a 997.1, no matter the price.

Op, before you do the deal you owe it to yourself to do a bit more research!

2009 or later only!

I had a long talk with my soon to be Tech. He has an 06 C4s and gave me the lowdown on the IMS issues. He said the engine would need to come out to get the fix done. Also, the later year 997s did not have the same failure rate. We discussed maintenance intervals and he said even well-maintained cars can get it....I guess I'll see.

Having a Dension 500s unit installed. I need BT and access to iPod tunes.

Congrats! If it's your first 911 be careful backing into garage or other tight spaces at first. Maybe it's just me but it's easy to forget how wide it is in the back (compared to the cockpit).
