2nd Hand M2 need advice

I'm considering buying a 2nd hand M2, I have 2 options so far one that is from 2016 with 5k km and another one early 2017 with 2k km.

I have no idea how these car were used before especially during "break in" period. Any advice on things to check before buying ?

Thanks.

Any newer car I purchase... I bring it to the dealer and have them do a multi-point inspection, ask if there are any flags or issues with the vehicle and any additional warranty/maintenance added to the vehicle.

If you are purchasing this car from a private party, I pay for the inspection and have the PP go to their local dealer, contingent on the sale of the vehicle.

Just my .02.

Also have a friendly BMW dealer run the VIN for you. All sorts of shit shows up in their database that wouldn't on Carfax.

Doesn't matter. Have someone who is NOT selling you the car run the VIN for you. Also get a PPI at a different dealer.

Get the newer model if budget permits, the 2017 model as it will have design revisions, for example: upgraded Stereo amp, Active Sound Design (Less intrusive), and revised break disc covers whereby stones don't get stuck in them. Just my thoughts, but obviously check things out for yourself.

Off-topic, but what's your source for ASD being less intrusive in 2017MY?

What are these 2nd hand (aka Used) cars priced at?

Do they come with CPO warranties?

Sorry I'm not sure what CPO stands for. They come with 2 year manufacturer warranty

Where I live the M2 costs 80k € as new ^^
2017 model has 11k€ of MPerfomance accesories (carbon fiber all over the place and MPerformance exhaust) 77k
2016 one is "normal" 67k€

Both are CPO and I believe the newer one was staff owned.

Do you guys think it's possible / realistic to ask the selling dealership to show the "driving history" (by that I mean like how many times engine was redlined, over heated and so)... My concern is to know if the car was abused during break-in...

Check rotors, pads and you might have a better picture what you're getting.

These cars are built to be driven hard, and you have warranty involved for at least good 4-5 years.

So far, none of M2 engines got broken down as far as we know. While the story for M3/4 was way different in the first one year of people owning it.

Its a essentially still a brand new car with a manufactures warranty.

Go drive the car, if it drives great. Buy it. You don't need to make it more complicated than it already is.

Bought my M2 "used" with 1200 miles on it.

Just to let the people know here I went to pick up my M2 last Saturday, it was dealer's showroom car with 1 000 km. However they could get me off 12k € of the MSRP (88k € with options where I live) if they sold it at 3001 Km and a week later (so it's 3 month old) to be able to sell it as approved used BMW. So I agreed to that, which saves me from the pain of having the break in the car myself + break in service. They also took back my f30 1 year and a half before end of contract so I just had to put down payment for the M2.
I'm happy with the discount, I leverage the fact that new order will be LCI models and this one is not so they should get rid of it ASAP XD

I remember reading that the DCT LC was only good for a few hundred uses. If that value is readable, it would give you s good idea if it was hammered or not

Is LC available before break-in service ? If not I highly doubt the sales guy used that during the week the car was being ran after I looked at it.

I looked at the breaks and tires to check obvious sign of hard driving, but the thing was pretty much as new (i got lucky getting the Michelin PSS).

Pretty sure the warranty is NO LONGER transferable. Meaning original owner only unless Ultimate Care + was purchased or something like that. Buyer beware!

I think it depends on the country's law. Here the car has to have at least 3 years manufacturer warranty no matter what.
