I get that the Tii would be lighter than the M235i but would it be positioned between the 228i and M235i or the M235i and M2?

lol. blasphemy reaches a new point of attack! My prediction? The M235i will be promptly discontinued with the M2 comes out. The 230 or 235 'tii' will take its place...and will be a charged up 2 liter turbo.....there will probably be no more inline 6s for the 2-series unless it's an M2. |

Lineup gets seriously crowded with an M235, Tii, and M2...one will have to go. That was one of the original reasons I thought the M2 might not ever be produced...because the M235 might be the "best" 2 series you can guy...we shall see...

as for the whole 'tii' thing, that was such a huge rumour during the duration of the 1-series and it never happened aside from that concept car----so i'm not sure if it will happen again. It kind of wouldn't make sense to throw the tii and the backwards turbo deal on the same car....as they were two different cars! Unless Scott was referring to the M2 having the whole backwards turbo thing and the 'tii' being a separate idea altogether. |

I don't see BMW introducing it in 2015. There would be no "breathing room" for the M235i and M3/4. Ppl would wait out on the M2 an extra year and M3/4 sales could decline |

I'm confused too.
The 4-banger has for two years been deemed the engine for the "lightweight" M2. Now we are getting a 6-year old engine (8 by the time its released) that's likely not even an S designation. I need to go back and look at the weight calcs in the other rumour thread to see how porky the M2 might be. |

Yes it did. It was well known there would be a 4 Series and a 2 Series and M derived models. It was well known that the M5 would drop its NA V10 for a FI V8, and so the M3 its NA V8 for a FI I6/V6, just as BMW's "Z2 M" that never came would get an FI I4 instead of a NA I6.

Remember BMW is not like Mercedes, where you have the AMG models come out right beside the regular series models. And I think that this is part of the underlying issue. With other marques, one has a good guess what maybe powering them, but with BMW, what may be proposed today, will be axed in the future for a a volume maker. |
