It looks like they just finally ran out of room attempting to stuff an M4 under an M2.

Pretty logical they use an m4 muffler to test the car. I still think it is entirely possible they reengineer the exhaust for the production car.

I do not think the car can make it to production looking like that... if somehow it does then muffler delete will be the first mod

Been about a month since any real news surfaced? Based on the mule vins, there's not much left to speculate other than the price and minor design choices. I imagine the official announcement happens in a month or so.

The M4 made it looking mighty similar, only half hidden.

lol No, that movie is before my time. But, i do know the gyst of what happens.

I think the "camo" tape on the rear valence accentuates/increases the size of the exhaust in these pictures. still looks bigger in size than previous...
*edit* looked at it zoomed in...damn those mufflers are huge!!

The muffler actually looks even larger in that pic than the other M2 Competition test mule pics.

It starting to look like a rear diffuser will hide the exhaust. With the pipes exiting in between.

I know that this has been kicked around a bit on this thread ... Drive, an Australian online motoring journal has provided some further clarity around the likely model M2 / Competition / CS / CSL hierarchy.

Some interesting points:
  • The CSL badge may only be worn by select models in the range (M2 / M4 / M8)
  • Some model ranges will not use the hierarchy (e.g. X5)
  • In Australia, the M2 is the top selling "M" model ... outselling the M140i despite it being at least $35k cheaper.

Cheers,

I am not happy to see that crap M4 exhaust set up instead of a Competition exhaust... This thing is not going to sound good with that exhaust connected to a S55 engine, but let's hope that it is just testing.

It does not appear to be either the base M4 or Comp Pack M4 exhaust. Both of those have a multiple rib design on their underside. (See below) The pictured exhaust on the M2 CS has an interesting new dual indent design. (This is me hoping that there will be a cool diffuser needing those dual clefts for clearence.)

I hope they put the same exhaust on that is on Perf Ed or something even better. I love the push button for added nastiness!
