Hey guys,

The angles of the 1M are off in some of the comparison photos. The line between the windscreen and roof are not the same when doing frontal shots indicating the photos are taken at different angles and distances which will make quite a difference to the overall look. Some even look compressed.

Heres how the 1M should look if taken at the same angle as the M2.

I was thinking the same thing!..it's like one of those before and after weight loss ads where the lighting/angles/hair styles are all altered !!

Owned the last 3 gen M3, was waiting for this to decide between M2 and M4. I ordered the Shelby GT 350!

I love the M2.

I like how much separation they left between it and the M3 to be honest. Intentionally done no question.

I also like the little aspects they slip in there... 7000 rev limiter- not redline. I can assume 6800 would be the redline but they know us assholes would piss and moan about that "low revving" engine.

They weight as I mentioned in another post has to be a typo, there's no way the stick is heavier than the DCT, assuming its the same trans as the M3 which as supposedly a lightened 1M trans.

Chris Bangle and his team made the ugliest cars I have ever seen for a manufacturer (maybe except for Pontiac). That generation 7, 6, 5, 3, 1, Z4 series of cars were all terrible IMO, every single one of them. Although the E92 coupe was not too bad. He had to "quit" (i.e., fired) due to the whole backlash of his heinous designs. They were not progressive, they were simply ugly.

Anybody who supported his designs did so because they probably bought one or are seeing through

The cars that preceded that generation were beautiful and the cars that came after are also good looking. But anything from the C.B. era should be forgotten in terms of styling. It's no wonder BMW did a COMPLETE redesign in some ways and washed their hands of C.B.

That being said, the 1M is an awesome car in its own right when it comes to driving fun. And so were the 135 cars... But they had faces only a mother (owner) could love.

I remember reading this from WSJ. Yeah, they aren't experts on cars, but still I find some truth:

"So what could possibly be wrong? Well, for one thing, the 1M Coupe is a total buttaface, one of the ugliest, most disturbingly wrong car designs in modern history. The addition of all the massive wheel arches, lip spoilers, aero mods and the so-called Air Curtain front spoiler helps not at all. This car is the last revenge of former BMW styling head Chris Bangle. Jeez, put a flag over its head and drive for glory."

http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB100014...38741991133766

That's harsh and I think the 1M looks much better than this author, but it's no M2 regardless. The back of the M2 could be improved on, but hey, every car has design flaws
Funny how you crap all over Bangle and when I look at the rear end of the M2 I can't help to think that Bangle couldn't have screwed it up any worse.

I think the new M2 looks like the evolution of what follows the 1M, now i hope the prices of the 1M get lower so i can get me one lol.

No CF roof.
No CF driveshaft

Not sure what the front fenders are made of. But in my e90 M3 the fenders were plastic. m4 should be plastic or aluminum.

not a chance!

I'm really trying to justify an M2.. but Euro Delivery and an new warranty are losing vs the M2 rear end styling, electric steering is a minor factor... the power increase is negligible and really not needed, less exclusivity, and most importantly the Miss piggy curb weight. I know that the M2 will handle well and be a monster... but I never wanted an E36 over my E30..... and right now.. it seems that 1M vs M2 is the same conundrum.

Edit: Yup, even the E90 M3 had plastic up front.

Why is it hard to understand? Without the price running away, where did you think they were going to pull weight from, while adding the heavier M4 running gear?

The 1M was ahead of its time when it came out as far as its looks and yeah, BMW put forth some very aggressive lines consistently from front to back. Some folks were not used to its edgy design but to this day, it's still a bad ass looking car.

But with the M2 IMO, two different designers decided to teamed up and compromised the looks.

One more thing, the 1M and 135 looks like brothers. The M2 and M235i, looks like long distance cousins.

About the mirrors, I think the people is right. I would like to know what is the reason behind BMW to not include //M mirrors. I think a M car is a M car, there's not any space in between. Specially when there is already a M235i. It gives me the impression that BMW is still afraid of cannibalization or status (M4). CFR isn't here, but I can understand that "maybe" it's because of the price.
The mirrors... I think is like a slap in the face, and about the seats...

yeah I know.. I just can't believe that the 6 speed version of this car is 200 lbs more than my 1M...

waiting for confirmation of this.. that would mean only 150 lbs heavier ugh..

There is plenty of room for an M2 CSL in the lineup.. definitely.

They corrected the mistake on the weight. The DCT is 3505 now.

I wouldn't mind bringing one home to keep Einser Rex company but there is a certain GT3 that keeps calling my name ...
I need a new daily driver soon (and a GT3 cant be that)... the 1 only has 16k miles and I like it that way

Ill get the 2 fully loaded/bloated and drive and abuse it and replace it in a few years.... but waiting for a CSL is tempting. I wish I could go GT3 like you

Agree with your comments. a GT3 isn't calling my name... and a Cayman GT4 is also out of the question. M2 CSL however...

I think the wider fenders on the rear of the M2 don't show up because they built the width into the rear bumper. Hence those awkward reflectors to break it up.

The 1M looks a little dated but is better looking than the M2 IMO. The interior is a little nicer in the new car too.
