The earlier versions had a plunger spring that was too long causing soke issues with the solenoid not being able to retract the plunger when needed this causing some codes. Gfb realized the issue and rectified it, this was a long time ago so there very little possibibility of getting an old version. You could always measure the spring and send it to gfb for verification.

The spring measured 36mm long. GFB shared back with me that the spring length in the newer kits is 32-33m long. Awaiting word on next steps. |

I see, so you did get an old version. My spring was 31.22 mm (probably some extremely minor error in that measurement so likely it is 32mm) long so I have the new version.

Just wanted to throw some thanks to this thread. Did the MST V2 with Turbosmart DV a few months ago. Prior mods include charge pipe, Dinan Intercooler, -Cat DP w/ Tune. I agree, better throttle response and top end.
Something cool that I haven't seen anyone mention is that it changes the induction noise above 3.5K RPM on slow progressive pulls with a throatier sound. I didn't notice this until a few weeks ago while in 6th or 7th giving it a little bit more throttle to catch up to traffic. |

I think you're confusing the plunger spring for the piston spring. The plunger spring is absolutely necessary because it is responsible for holding the plunger closed against the base plate allowing for the piston to transfer boost to the back side allowing it to be forced against the opening of the turbo to seal and hold boost. The piston spring is optional, where if you use it, it will allow for the piston to stay shut and hold a little bit extra boost in the charge pipe allowing for better response.

No problem! Just didn't want you to pull that plunger spring and have major issues.

Hello, I want to put an mst brand inlet, but I can't decide whether to put v1 or v2, I have a stock turbo and I don't plan to change it. I read many photos and they say that the v2 works well with the original turbos, but I also saw in another forum that the stock turbo is small inside and makes a shock with the v2 inlet. Is there really an improvement installing v2 in a stock turbo or should I go directly for v1? Thank you very much!
