Was hoping the tach display was illuminated WHITE (not orange) like the M3 and previous E9x M's, really gives it a sporty feel.

Saw the m2 at the NAIAS in LBB I must of missed the Mkoolaid on this one? Maybe I'll have to drive it as well as see it with some m performance parts/lowered on better wheels (weird huh) to get the wow factor I was hoping for. I would of preferred it to be bulldog stance like the 1m but I understand it doesn't suit bmw current styling of cars but I stared at it for 30-45minutes and I couldn't really see the width.

Yes, it is definitely trivial. But we're talking about a premium carmaker with a reputation, building an expensive car under their uber M brand, so there is a certain expectation with that. Every M car forever has had all red needles. I'm sure there's a reason they didn't go all red for the M2, but it's just something unusual along the lines of the lack of M side mirrors and a regular old N55 instead of an S-engine. It'll still be a great car, no doubt, but little things like that can be disappointing especially if you look at it every day while driving. |

Instrument cluster is white during the day; at night it changes to the classic BMW orange.

I guess LBB is also part of the new 'Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde' approach: turquoise/teal during the day - Estoril-ish at night (but brake callipers remain dark blue and the stitching Polar Blue).

I'll assume you're referring to me here. There is a difference between hoping for something and not buying the car because of the color of a gauge needle (your words). Fanboy or not, that is flat out ridiculous. I'm not even sure I'm getting an M2, but if I ever met someone who told me that they didn't get a car they otherwise wanted because they didn't like the color of the fuel gauge needle, I'd laugh in their face. It's ok though, tell us again about you having an M5.

I plan on putting some red tape over my fuel needle and making sure I fill up every day so that the needle never moves off full. Problem solved.

Tell that to Ferrari too: the 488 Spider launch color is also "Blue Ferrari"!
LBB is such a complex color. I personnally think LBB should be the "new" M launch color for all other models as well. It will become a classic color in the near future for sure. |

All of you that are complaining about the color of the fuel needle are pussies.
Be a fucking man. Mod your car appropriately and move on or save an allocation for someone else.

The color of the entire instrument gauge cluster is a VERY important thing for some people, as the white lighting has only appeared on M cars. BMW's standard orange hue has been present in every model car forever, but the recent introduction of white for the instrument gauge cluster has been extremely well-received as it adds a very sporty touch that was otherwise lacking. It's weird that in the FIRST pics of the gauge cluster of the M2 it was orange. Around the middle set of pics for pre-production it appeared to be white. And now we see the final production to be back to orange, closer to original spec. It's not a deal breaker for anyone, just an observation. But you bet your ass that I noticed. I loved the white in my e92, and I love it even more in my F80. I would absolutely want it in the M2, but unfortunately we don't make the rules so we take it as it comes! I read somewhere a long time ago that BMW uses orange lighting because it is the color LEAST sensitive to the eye in dim driving conditions (i.e. the least distracting compared to the reds, blues, whites, greens). For this I applaud them for sticking to their roots. However orange looks old to me, so seeing that bright white, contrast-y instrument cluster in my M3, I feel like I am driving something "different". And that's part of the whole package, folks! Cheers to all. Who cares about the fuel needle haha.
