The traction issues of the F80 are such that I don't know if I am currently getting the best RWD experience. I hope that's something the engineers put more focus on in the next generation...

If I want a hobby car I keep the RWD style, M2, M3, etc. is more fun for me. Did not have a chance to drive the new M5 yet, best of both worlds blows me away. I think is a wonderful machine. Actually I am afraid to drive because I might like it too much... I hope the new M3 will bring a similar approach. Anyway, 340xi or 440xi are very nice machines. |

Coming from an Audi Owner the RS3 needs to look more of the part. Compared to the M2 the RS3 looks like an S3 with different bumpers, wheels, brakes, and exhaust, that's it. The RS3 looks like a really nice S3 whereas the BMW M2 could never be confused for a M240i. And on top of that Audi is charging more for the RS3 than the M2. Charging more for a car that doesn't have a wide-body kit. The Audi is way too expensive for what it is. If it had wider hips I would be singing a different tune but as it stands now. The RS3 looks too mundane to be compared with an M2

Check out around the 4:45 mark - looks like it’s there to the left of the gear selector

Owned many BMW and (awd) Audi. If you want a fun factory setup - BMW hands down. You can tune an Audi to be more driver oriented (read: fun - less under steer) but it's not that way even in the RS from the factory in my opinion. Not saying they both are not fast from the factory though. You also have to adapt to the AWD in your driving style (slower in - faster off) which many people don't like / aren't used to - which again = less fun for most. Finally if you are only capable of driving at 90% - which most are or should be on public roads - both are great. I prefer the more aggressive styling and more engaging driving experience of the BMW's - but both have their merits.

No surprises here on the outcome
Sorry, but there was no surprise ending here. Just the plain truth that the M2 is better. Oh, and about the comment regarding winter driving - just do what I did - I mounted Michelin Alpin PA4s at all four corners. Never mind the ice racing last weekend, the M2 is great in the snow in upstate NY.

An M2 will do fine with a proper set of Nokian winter tires.
M cars are great in the snow because of the limited slip diff. Ground clearance will be the biggest challenge, but AWD isn't as necessary as a lot of people have ben led to believe by marketing and sales people trying to make a few extra bucks. |
