I guess that's technically true, but the designation to 335 was due to the engine change. This is just an example of BMW giving a huge bump in power only one year after launch of a new model.
There were markets outside of USA, where 330i was fitted and sold with N53 from 2007-2013, having a some 10hp power bump over n52.

335i isn't the updated 330i or the successor of it.

My god, you people... yeah, a taxi driver is professional driver, whatever.

My point was that as power goes up, so must the skill of the driver or the sophistication of the nannies. I doubt they'll change anything but the engine so I bet we'll see a bunch of wrecked S55 M2s with tunes on the front page in a year or two.

Or worse, what if BMW goes the way of Jaguar and makes the car AWD just to be safe? Nahh, that wont happen.

That appears to be the rumor... And lessee does that coincide with any emissions law changes either in Europe or North America ?

What makes everyone think it would be emissions related? The N55 in the M2 actually had a better rating than the S55. If that's the case they'll drop in the B58.

Because European emissions laws, US CAFE Guidlelines and perhaps now Chinese emissions restrictions shape the entire automotive industry currently. It's why nearly every single automotive manufacturer has turbo motors in their lineup currently.

I was expecting a tweaked version of the B58, this would be an even more pleasant surprise. If BMW were to bust a move like this would end the debate on my next ride if priced right.

And I don't have money to burn on selling the devalued N55 M2 and buying the new S55 version.
My M2 is going to be delivered at the end of 2016…. Indeed I will be pretty upset if 3 months later the M2 has the S55 engine… I actually don't expect it to be. How would this be possible without making the M2 more expensive and why would BMW do this at that time and also risk loosing more sales of the more expensive M3, M4? If they ever change the engine I would presume it's not going to be with the same M3/M4 engine and it's going to be somewhat further into the future with the LCI update…and of course with the launch of the all new M2 after 2020

I also wonder if there is going to be a competition package for the M2 when there is already a range op M performance parts. Maybe…but me personally I don't expect it to be….but who knows. I see more sense in keeping the normal "budget friendly and all day usable" M2 exactly how the car now is…with the M performance parts for people who want some more sporty upgrades. And then also a M2 CSL that is lot more expensive for people who want the most extreme version of the M2 or mostly want to use the M2 on track….or as an investment and keep it locked in their garage.

Those "investment" owners are getting the from me, because these are the people who make some cars unavailable for real enthusiasts who want to buy certain special cars to drive and enjoy them. Those investors also created the current market of increased prices for all new and old cars that are most enjoyable to drive… But hey; of course I can fully understand why they do it… Look at the amount money you could make if you had the chance to buy a 991-GT3RS, 991-R and not drive it. And in every economy there is always the supply and demand factor. It's normal; but speaking from the heart of a petrolhead who enjoy driving cars (and not only owning) it sometimes makes me sad that some fabulous cars are becoming so expensive or never get driven (like so many new Porsche 991-R and older Porsches).

Right but my point was why would they put in a motor that is LESS compliant as standard for the next 4 years? They wouldn't. The B58 would be the replacement to meet emissions standards.

Only way its getting the S55 is if its a limited GTS model.

On F80 forums they call the non-ZCP model the "M3 Civic".

Would this make the N55 M2 the "M2 Yugo"?

It sounds like this is for the GTS model and the thread says "The price tag will be about double of the current M2 though."

I have to say it is hilarious to see a rumor unsupported buy any fact or even logic take off and cause so much consternation. No way will the S55 make it into a regular M2, maybe a GTS or other limited production model but not the regular M2. When the M2 gets an engine change it will be based on the B58 modular engine that BMW spent many years and many millions developing and building production capacity for. BMW has made it clear that all 3,4 and 6 cyl engines will be based on this program. The S55 will die off when the next gen of the M3/4 comes along.
