My point was that as power goes up, so must the skill of the driver or the sophistication of the nannies. I doubt they'll change anything but the engine so I bet we'll see a bunch of wrecked S55 M2s with tunes on the front page in a year or two. Or worse, what if BMW goes the way of Jaguar and makes the car AWD just to be safe? Nahh, that wont happen.

Because European emissions laws, US CAFE Guidlelines and perhaps now Chinese emissions restrictions shape the entire automotive industry currently. It's why nearly every single automotive manufacturer has turbo motors in their lineup currently. |

I was expecting a tweaked version of the B58, this would be an even more pleasant surprise. If BMW were to bust a move like this would end the debate on my next ride if priced right.

I also wonder if there is going to be a competition package for the M2 when there is already a range op M performance parts. Maybe…but me personally I don't expect it to be….but who knows. I see more sense in keeping the normal "budget friendly and all day usable" M2 exactly how the car now is…with the M performance parts for people who want some more sporty upgrades. And then also a M2 CSL that is lot more expensive for people who want the most extreme version of the M2 or mostly want to use the M2 on track….or as an investment and keep it locked in their garage. Those "investment" owners are getting the from me, because these are the people who make some cars unavailable for real enthusiasts who want to buy certain special cars to drive and enjoy them. Those investors also created the current market of increased prices for all new and old cars that are most enjoyable to drive… But hey; of course I can fully understand why they do it… Look at the amount money you could make if you had the chance to buy a 991-GT3RS, 991-R and not drive it. And in every economy there is always the supply and demand factor. It's normal; but speaking from the heart of a petrolhead who enjoy driving cars (and not only owning) it sometimes makes me sad that some fabulous cars are becoming so expensive or never get driven (like so many new Porsche 991-R and older Porsches).

It sounds like this is for the GTS model and the thread says "The price tag will be about double of the current M2 though."

I have to say it is hilarious to see a rumor unsupported buy any fact or even logic take off and cause so much consternation. No way will the S55 make it into a regular M2, maybe a GTS or other limited production model but not the regular M2. When the M2 gets an engine change it will be based on the B58 modular engine that BMW spent many years and many millions developing and building production capacity for. BMW has made it clear that all 3,4 and 6 cyl engines will be based on this program. The S55 will die off when the next gen of the M3/4 comes along.
