Yearly or a one time fee?

We pay about €200/year for a M2 in road/emissions tax here in Sweden. But all of our neighbors (Norway, Denmark and Finland) have a lot higher taxes for (fun) cars.

It's a one time tax, when you buy the car. After that there's nothing thank goodness. Yes the situation is so bad in Denmark, you just don't see any fun cars at all !

Sure seems to me the poll is just fine...
unfortunately it seems that you would ultimately, perhaps wistfully? , place yourself in the " shiftless " category when making your purchase..

Why the bad attitude? I'm just pointing out that it's very possible and probably common (as evidenced by the post above this) that some of us would get a manual if we could and therefore the word "prefer" doesn't really fit.

Well hey, I guess there's no room for that kind of thought but there is plenty of room for underhanded labeling and barfing on each other. BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if I manually change gears in my "shiftless" cars more often than stick drivers.

I went to my dealer today and test drove a 6MT M3 and a DCT M3.I primarily wanted to see if I liked the rev matching feature on the 6MT.I had already driven the DCT M3 when the M3 had just been released, but I decided to try it out again.

The rev matching feature on the 6MT was very smooth and I hardly noticed it.I will be driving the car in sports plus most of the time anyway, which cancels the rev matching feature. The main thing though is how much fun the car is to drive in the manual.I would never get tired of driving the M3 with the manual.

The DCT M3 is also an absolute blast to drive and the tranny is incredible. The shifts are so quick and smooth, that it is almost impossible to not speed all the time in the car, especially in manual mode.

It's a tough call choosing between the two transmissions but as someone who has always driven a manual sports car,I am just worried that I will get tired of the DCT and miss the more direct connection to the car, that the manual gives to the driver. The fun factor is also a big reason why i pefer the 6MT and the tranny works very well with the high reving S55 engine. So I will be ordering the M2 with the 6MT.

I just hope that the engine in the M2 can come close to the S55 because it is an awesome engine.

No option for rest of the world?
I have had a DCT car before and now I think I will get manuals for as long as they are still available.
The DCT in my 135i made after market tuning more difficult and wouldn't let me do burnouts.

You aren't making sense... And sorry if you can't recognize teasing for " bad attitude ".

Listen to yourself man...

" some of us would get a manual if we could? "

You can!

When you make your purchase ( or even poll) selection, does someone other than you actually pull the trigger and has final say?

I may be wrong but I think he is saying he would prefer the mt but will get the dct because of it being a DD in lots of traffic for instance..?

You didn't like the sport auto transmission in the M135i?
I actually was an auto transmission hater for decades but that transmission changed my mind. It is just brillant and considered as one of the best engine / transmission-combinations out there.

What did you not like about this transmission?
the 8 speed ZF is the most overrated transmission ever....just feels like an ordinary torque converter automatic to me; but it's quite funny how they've hyped it as if it's a DCT but it's not even close. The M-DCT should be much better in the M2.

That being said....the M2 should have been manual-only like the 1M. A shame there is even a transmission choice here....further dilution of a concept, IMO.

At least the market still has cars like the Cayman GT4 and Focus RS which are both lower production with manual-only!

Yes, that's correct. And I understand that. But he wanted to have the poll amended so that would be an option.

Perhaps we should also add the " my wife made me purchase an automatic " as an additional poll response so we can cover all the people who "wish they could buy a manual" even when they actually can, but because of some strange forces in the universe. ...

In my case, it's the other way around.

Alike the 1M, I ordered the M2 without informing my wife. But when I told her afterwards, I pointed out that I could still change my order from 6MT to M-DCT. She insisted on getting/keeping the manual. She drove automatics for almost a year when she did her LL.M in Chicago many moons ago ...and always wants/drives manuals ever since.

Let's face it, it is easier than ever to drive a manual on these modern cars. Work wise the only diff btw dct and manual is the third pedal. The main dct advantage comes with the auto mode and if racing. I don't think either is a bad choice it's just a matter of preference and comfort

Now given that the M2 will most likely be a difficult car to get I imagine most people ordering the car exactly how they want it rather than just taking one of the dealership (like a regular 3 series or something like that). Let's see if the ratio is going to be similar in Spring.
People on this forum in NA like it 5:1....
General US population is 100% lazier than the enthusiasts here.
