Agree. If the moonroof is available, I'll snap-order it without a second thought.
I have not owned a car without a sunroof or convertible roof in decades.
If I had a choice of either CF roof or moonroof, I'd need to think about it.

Seems like moonroofs are OK for track days, but I'm not 100% sure.
Anyone?
Define OK. I've been to a small track and I have a moonroof. The reason my time around the track was not great was definitely the moon roof's fault and not the driver's...definitely yeah

Where "OK" means "allowed on the track."

I'd hate to order the moonroof and not be allowed to participate in track days at Laguna Seca, Sonoma Raceway, Thunderhill, ad nauseam.

I don't know of a track anywhere that won't allow cars with sunroofs... convertibles may be a problem but a sunroof should be OK. Otherwise, lots of Porsches, BMW's, etc, etc would be excluded.

So Honda S2000's and Boxsters are not allowed without a hard top?

I use my sunroof all the time. I would actually take a sunroof over CF roof, although I agree the CF roof looks much better. Until someone is paying me money for quicker lap times, I'm OK with the extra weight.

For me a sunroof is the most overrated option on a car. Maybe in my country it`s mostly clouded and raining, so it is just useless to have.

I`ll gladly buy another option for that money.

Not that this is an accurate and scientific poll, but it's pretty even with choosing sunroof or not.

This is the main reason why a sunroof is not desirable for track use. Forget the weight reduction, the reduction in headroom is terrible.

I can't speak to Honda S2000s, but Spec Boxster shall have a hard top and Porsche PCA DEs shall have a Brey-Krause Roll Bar Extension.

I wonder if it will be standard equipment like on the M235i. I'm really on the fence on what to do about it.
i have a sun roof in both my current cars....never open them.
Added weight is not my biggest concern, but the simple ability to wax the entire roof without worrying about getting wax in the grooves is worth NOT having a sun roof to me!

I have had a sunroof for many years on my cars and I never use it, in fact I don't ever open the shade even so I will be happy to pass on one and get the extra inch or so of headroom.

For most track day organizations that I am familiar with, hardtop is not required for a convertible as it won't really protect you in a crash, but a roll bar that is at least 1" taller than your helmet is. As far as a sunroof on track, I have been asked to tape it up in the past, but that's about it.

My biggest concern as well after driving a 228 with sunroof and power seats. Definitely not enough headroom for me st 5'10".

First no power seats.
while I would like a sunroof or moonroof , as a no cost option, I still might leave it off due to height concerns.

No wonder I had such a hard time finding an E92 M3 without a sunroof. Looking at the ratio from this poll, it should be no surprise.

Here at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (aka Mosport), moon/sun roofs are perfectly OK. The rule is they have to be completely shut.
The rule may be driven more by the Club you drive with. With the Porsche club there is no issue. My 911 has a moon roof, at staging, the volunteers have this as a checklist to ensure the roof is completely closed.

Given the standard steel roof, sure what the heck. On the other hand, If I go F80 I'll definitely take the carbon fiber roof.

I enjoy the moonroof on my M5. I don't miss the lack of one on my Z4M coupe, but that is not my DD.

Adding weight and raising the center of gravity on my M2 in one of the rare instances where I actually have a choice? Pass.

I agree. Lighting up the pretty dark Dakota interior + allowing some extra sound and air to enter from above.

It isn't going to happen and the LCI isn't until the 2018 model year.
