The front end and proportions are great but the rear is a bit awkward. Overall, I’d say top 10.

Try bringing this up on the G87 forum 😀 and I’m sure the responses will be different.
I don’t know that the G87 will ever be considered a great design. It’s a mess everywhere you look.

The G87 interior is beautiful and the engine’s great, but those two elements aren’t enough to offset the look of it.

If a car looks truly good, then it looks good right away. An ugly car doesn't start looking good as it gets older.

Sometimes a car can be so great that its homely looks gain a certain charm -- just like a great personality on a person. Sometimes you can acclimate to bad looks and learn to ignore certain traits...or at least try to.

I'm not interested in having some complicated metaphysical relationship with a car, so if it's ugly I will pass.

Well said.

Aside from my M2 Comp, I have a Z3 3.0 Coupe. It’s certainly a quirky design, but that said, I think its design merits greater admiration than the G87 (biased opinion of course).

I was referring to the OP’s main point about the F87…

And I don’t consider the G87’s interior beautiful with those screens 🤢

To me the curved screen bothers me more than the outside of the car, that thing takes me out of the car so much. I can imagine being at the track with that huge imax screen in front of me, nope.

Its sad because the interior of the G80/82 was really really nice until they decided to go with the gigantic screen for all the Gs.

I would say top 5 Modern ///M cars.

I would add in no particular order.

F87 M2 (OG, C & CS)
E46 M3
E92 M3
E90 M3
F80 M3 (Not F82 M4)

Just my opinion...

But I would put the F87 as top 10 for sure and closer to the middle and it won't be a popular opinion on the comp forum (and I have one) but the OG is a better looking car, the front is way more classic BMW and will age better
I agree with everything you said, other than the OG being better looking

I can accept everything on that car except the rear. It’s sooooo bad.

The gray looks pretty good in those angles. I do like how the front flares out. I have some issues with it and will not be buying it for many reasons but glad some people are stoked on it. We are weeks away from some reviews and I bet they are going to be great.

Styling reminds me of those old Kaminari kits for the Z cars, back before CNC modelling.
