Looks wise that's subjective. Functionally they are better because they are LED. Same goes with all the other LCI updates with exception to the dash, which is purely subjective.

Looks like it works for US specific cars. Did a little searching, what I found were people in other BMW model forums saying the same. Guess for non-Us cars it resets every time you start the car, which really blows.

You can code it to remember I think.

I believe you are mis-led. Without executive package, you will not have Adaptive LED headlights, which means no Hex for you.

Hoping someone who actual has this feature can comment and also let us know what country they are in.
Maybe it stays off in the US model?

Possible. Someone already did it on Youtube, in Germany.

Hoping the nannies will stay off in the US model - pretty sure the stop/start is coded to stay off in the US - I had it coded off (at the dealer) on my last bimmer shortly after delivery, and my CA at the time said they were starting to ship that way (on F30 at least).

Maybe others with a US M2 can confirm how the US models behave as far as stop/start staying off and the nannies...

Yeah I was very confused with it all too. The standard seems to be the same as pre-LCi, but they put it there for clarity. What my dealer told me was that choosing High beam assistant is the deciding factor for if you get the new ones are not. I got a full options list for my region and choosing this gives me the new lights.

The OP's pics actually agree with the post you quoted, which had a picture of both the Hex and non-Hex LCI lights. OP's pics match the standard non-adaptive LCI lights, which are LED but still have the "curvy style" halos.

See, this makes some amount of sense.

So option code 552 just means "LED headlights"
the 5AC code for high beam assist is what gives you the fully adaptive headlights, which also happen to have the hex halos.

Note that the middle picture matches what the OP has and what I suspect everyone in the US without the Exec package will be getting.

And in that picture I still think I prefer the pre-LCI tails.

That's probably where a lot of the confusion is from. Adaptive headlights is not a separate option in the US. It's part of our exec package which includes the high beam assist/drivers assist. Other countries might be different, OP included. As for the US I believe we will only get two headlight options. Non hex LEDs and hex LED. Which means for the US we will only have two headlights.

I do not think the middle pic looks like the OP's headlights. The middle pic looks hex while the OP's headlights look exactly like the pre-LCI. Then again it's a bad pic and the middle pic may not be hex at all.

I think it can be coded out. I know the Bimmercode app for example allows non USA cars to set the default for engine start/stop feature to off.

Nah, the MY17 tail lights don't look great and the MY18 tail lights look even worse. However the new backlit gauges and oil temp sensor are great. Wrap your head around that as a MY17 owner. Is it a paradox for you?

No, from the 2018 US M2 Ordering Guide:

5A2 = LED Headlights

552 = Adaptive LED Headlights

There are only two different M2 headlights worldwide - the first one above (with round coronas) and the second one above (hex coronas). There's a whole (6-page) thread on this:

He (cornercase) is at least the third person to have posted their US Purchase Order showing option 552 outside of the Exec Pkg - there was speculation in another thread (see my link in previous post in this thread) that these orders were originally for 2017 models (when adaptive xenons were standard) that were 'rolled over' to become 2018 orders (it's been shown elsewhere on this forum that 2018 M2 production started early, in late June) and so possibly BMW decided to equip just those 'rollover' orders with standard adaptive headlights (in this case LED since those orders are now 2018 models); however, not all of those folks showing item 552 outside of the Exec Pkg were originally MY2017 orders.

Everyone has an opinion. I personally think all of the changes were worth waiting for. Including the tail lights. My only beef with them is that the shape makes the back look slightly narrower in pictures.
