Didn't like the 666M at first, certainly from pics, but in the flesh I love them

Same here, never liked them until I saw them in person. They look amazing at different angles, especially the ones with black windows.

We still don't know how the optional 19" 788M wheels design will actually look, but the VIN codes (2QT and 29U) reveal a Y-spoke design.

The 437M wheel of the M2 has a double-spoke design.

Artemis,
Perhaps these could be the 788M wheels which were on the 2002 Hommage? Both inner and outer spokes have a Y design. Your thoughts?

I was just posting what Levente_CSL said in the other thread regarding the wheels.I assumed after reading his post that he has seen the M2 Competition.

Did Gatte say which wheels are on the M2 Competition Video that he has?

Never been a fan of the 2002 Hommage wheels. Too bulky-busy for my eyes.

Here's to hoping that the Y-spoke design of the all-new 788M wheels is more akin:
  • the 763M wheels aka M2 M Performance wheels available right now (see the dedicated thread here);
  • the 359M design of the 1M and E92 M3 GTS and the 127M design of the E46 M3 CSL (see here);
  • the design of the Porsche 918 Spyder Magnesium wheels.

I personally like the 763M wheels, seem like a perfect mix of past BMW comp wheels and BBS FI's. The homage wheels look nice but are a bit too busy imo and would be a pia to clean.

I know the BBS Y style wheels are a classic, timeless design, but I'm getting sick of them... Can they really not come up with anything new Instead of just recycling the same old design???

I agree that the Hommage wheels as displayed have a lot going on, but IMO I think if they made them in 19's and blacked out the inner spokes and windows it would look less "busy" overall, but still amazing.

I see your point: blacking out parts of the wheel changes the look 'n feel.

Example:

Autumn 2013: BMW presents the 405M 2-Series M Performance wheels (19" forged light alloy wheels):

Spring 2014: BMW presents the virtual "BMW Vision Concept GT6". It got those wheels, but this time with full black finish + red-colored rim protector. And to my eyes that looked more appealing than the ones existing in the real world since Autumn 2013.

Sorry to say, but even with blacked out parts, the 2002 Hommage wheel design remains too busy and 'blocky' for my taste. It befits that 2002 Hommage as that concept car also got some 'boxy'/'clunky' design lines. IMHO the lines and angles of the wheel design need more flowing/flush bends instead of hard angles. Trouble is that that wheel design becomes weird and 'melted' when you replace the sharp V shape design lines with softer U shape.

Also the 666M wheels of the M4 GTS or M4 ZCP always failed to impress me. Too busy with that 'pixelized' look 'n feel. And to my eyes those acid orange accents always looked like a tacky add-on afterthought. A rim protector in a bright color (as seen on the BMW Vision Concept GT6) would have been a better idea, if BMW wanted to give it a quirky twist (and it's even functional as replaceable protection against rim rash). Also Porsche offers a red circle line as option to further spice the GT3 wheels. Even when I gave the 666M wheels a closer look IRL, I didn't manage to like those.

On the contrary, the 127M wheels of the E46 M3 CSL or the 359M wheels of the E82 1M: I liked those at first sight, instant connection (re functionality: not leightweight, though) and continue to prefer those designs more than the 437M of the M2/M3/M4.

It's a personal thing.

Let's hope that the optional 788M wheels can be added to the 127M, 359M and 763M family.

Perhaps the Hommage wheels look better in the flesh. I hated the 666M in photos until seeing them up close. Now I think they're awesome.

Looking to perhaps put a set on my M2.

The 666M with black windows looks the best. I never liked them until seeing them in person. What struck me most about them is how concave the center hub is. Never noticed it in pictures until I saw them in person. This video of an M3 Comp Pack shows the 666M wheels with black windows that I'm talking about. 20's IMO are too big for the M2, 19's would be perfect.
