Hi omasou,
In the case of using these points with jack stands, did you place the top of the jack stand directly into these points ... or did you put a jack pad into the point first, and then put the jack stand underneath the pad..? I was recommended these jack pads (which look great), but the page advises that they are not suitable with jack stands ... so I'm trying to work out how to correctly place the jack stand Thanks! |

Save yourself money and buy some hockey pucks b/c they work on all of the jack points plus if you mangle the side jack point they are cheap to replace. The reason those adapters are not good with jack stands are b/c as you lower the car it moves along an angle (hypotenuse). Last edited by omasou; 09-05-2017 at 08:15 PM.. |

Maybe it's just me, but the jackstand placement in post #13 doesn't look so good. I personally don't like jackstand points that don't have a decent amount of flat to work with (or that somehow ensure that the car won't slip off). That looks like an accident waiting to happen. In the past I've seen cars slip off of jackstand points that I thought were solid. I get pretty paranoid about where I put them now.

To your point that's why I usually put the wheel I take off under the other tire to hopefully catch car and/or leave the jack in place. should it come down. But hey totally agree if it looks sketchy find a more secure method. |

I read that response and yes you can place the jack stands under the side jack points but I also don't see a problem w/what you did. The car would have to jump up to come out of the notch in the jack stand head and off that placement.

Picked up that Arcan jack - works great, thanks for that recommendation SGL
I'm a bit worried about that rear jack point though. The diff seems to get in the way, so I wasn't really able to get a whole lot of the saddle onto that cross member. I had a polyurethane pad on the jack that shot out the back due to the extreme compression on one end. Luckily the car wasn't off the ground yet... Eventually I got the rear of the car up by just using the bare metal on the jack but I have to say I'm rather worried that she might slip off the jack while being raised or lowered. To my eyes, it looks like maybe half an inch to the edge of the jack. I snapped a quick picture to show what I'm talking about. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or somehow underestimating the amount of contact I'm making here? Btw, I'm gonna ditch that jack pad and grab hockey puck. It seems way to slippery for it's intended purpose. |

If I were to try this again, I would get the tires onto some wooden blocks to gain more height before trying to lift from the rear to be safe. Same goes for the front lift point. |

Reaching the lift point was fine (I have the stock diffuser) the problem I had is that I couldn't get the cross beam centered on the jack without also hitting the differential. Backing up the jack meant I was precariously lifting from the edge of the saddle.

If you were jacking the car up to change tires at the jack points indicated but want the assurance that if the jack failed there's a jack stand holding the car up, where would you put the jack stand since you've already used the jacking point?

In my experience - just barely. If you're lowered even a tiny bit, or just have 18" rims like I do the top of the jack will scrape against the underside of the bumper. I think I mentioned this in another post but these days I just always use a smaller jack on one side to get the front up an extra .5" which makes getting to the lift point much easier.

Put the trolly jack under one of the side points and lift until you can fit an axle stand (with or without puck) under the other point on the same side. Repeat on the other side.

Since my original post I picked up one of these. Very happy with it.

QuickJack but down here it will set you back $2500 Had been thinking about one but yesterday watching the Bathurst 12HR saw the Supercheap Auto sale & I've picked up a ToolPro low profile 3ton trolley jack & 4 stands for $260 (all half price), a saving worth the extra work.
