The only pattern I can think of is lack of a bespoke S designation engine in both the 1M as well as the M2, with regard to the sticker.

Does the engine have to be built by scratch (BMW M) for that to be the case? While I'm sure "beefing" up the N55 was pushed by the bean counters, could it not be argued that it makes good sense to take an already great powerplant and modify it to ///M standards? I mean, it's what they do with the base BMW cars isn't it - take an M235i, let the ///M engineers work their magic and call it an M2.

Well, not to feed any trolls, there are those who will argue the 1M and M2 are not "true" M Cars.
BTW M4 2015 Door jamb does reference BMW M GmbH as the manufacturer. Courtesy of EAG |

This is correct. The E34 M5 was the last car hand-built by BMW Motorsport GmbH as it was then called.

I was looking for tyre pressure info on my M2 today, noticed the door sticker and remembered this thread.
Mine lists BMW M GMBH, so I guess some others list it too: As others have said, it's all in the VIN prefix anyway eg. WBS - Just thought I'd post for clarity.

There are other who will argue that the 1M and the M2 are the two best cars out of BMW for the last 15-20 years.

Interesting the 10th digit is a "G" and that correlates to the year 1986 according to the chart! LOL.
Digit Eight is a 5 which is not on the chart for seatbelt type. GVWR is 4430 lbs????? M3 above is 4255? M2 is heavier? LOL. I don't think that chart fits the M2 code But it does say WBS..... Mine says Made In Japan. Mike

G is model year 2016 H is model year 2017 The M3 GVWR of 4255 is from a 1995 E36 door jamb. Yes the F87 M2 is heavier than an E36 M3 The chart code shown regarding restraint system digit 8, 1-4, is an old chart. |

Could be that the NA doorjam stickers for M2's are different. At least for MY 2016 Thanks for posting. Although this is a 2017? any 2017 NA owners have built by bmw M GMBH on their door jamb stickers |

Well then perhaps ONLY US M2's have the door jamb sticker which reads manufactured by BMW AG. Odd! Maybe that is why the Canadian NA M2's are more expensive! |
