You didn't post the diagrams of the engine blocks. Maybe you were worried you'd break bimmerpost? I have no such concerns, I know the user base here will keep the controversy going for months to come. I can see both sides, lot's of conflicting information has caused all this uncertainty. To be honest, I have no clue what's under the hood nor do I proclaim to know.

4' F82 M4 M4 Engine Block Mounting Parts

Aside from all the literature stating it's closed-deck there's this animation, which clearly shows a closed-deck engine.

According to the cross reference the M2 and M4 are different parts but they sure look the same
They don't look the same. Check again.
You're comparing the N55 & S55, right?

Case closed on this question, it was always the standard N55 open deck block (as suspected)

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Some of the original information contained in the press release was incorrect and since then has been updated. I can confirm that the M2 engine has been and continues to be open-deck.

Best regards,

So where do I sign up for my class action law suit compensation. I bought a car expecting close deck and it is not.

Not that it really matters, but this is clear false advertising.

How was there ever any doubt about it? Misleading press materials and all, people thought BMW cast a specific engine block for the N55T0?

This is like the turbo of the N55... same story. The M2 has a BMW-tuned N55 engine. End of story.

Looks like the S55 Is closed Deck M3/M4

I don't know why there's confusion. Per realoem the block for the M2 is clearly open deck. Those who say different are blind or don't know what they're looking at.

I think people realized that a different casting would not be economical for BMW, even though there probably would be close to 10,000 units worldwide. However, 15 months of prominent false advertising you'd think someone within BMW would have noticed? This was also in their internal engineering training manuals as well so it isn't a simple matter of marketing misunderstanding.

Further, when our doubts were expressed to BMW, we got official confirmation from them that the deck was closed. So the question was understandably kept alive - unimportant as the feature may be to most.

I don't think you would get anything. It's not clear that it was intentional and it also does not affect the performance of the car one bit, nor impact the resale value.

Yes, this is clearly a case of false advertising and they should be liable for it.

IANAL, but read this "with false advertising, it does not matter if the deception was intentional or the result of a mistake.

If the false or misleading statements or the ommited information would affect a reasonable consumer's decision to buy or use the product or service, the deception is considered material."

Something tells me all the class action talk would quickly get dropped if side view ///Mirrors were offered.

So is this the same guy from BMW Group that said definitively it was closed deck a while ago?

Not in the reply as posted he didn't. He just ignores his previous explicitly clear statement and states he is correcting a marketing material error. Perhaps he is correct this time, but has kind of lost all credibility at this point.

Kind of like Bullwinkle from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show... "This time for sure!"

But sure, let's go with this so the endless debate can finally be finished!

One could imagine that before replying the first time he had crossed referenced with some (from his perspective) authoritative info. Apparently, the non-marketing related info was *also* wrong.

Not that I am on the close deck camp, simply pointing out if it doesn't take being a S55 block to be a closed deck.
