MO Spec PSS tire question

So my rear tires are about gone at 14k miles. And I've found an insane deal on Michelin PSS 265/35 19 (98Y) MO spec tires...these are the factory fronts from the AMG GTC. Aside from the weight being different and a .1 inch tread width difference, they appear identical in other specs to the star spec BMW OEM rear PSS. Also note that on a 9.5" rim, the michelin site says the section width for each is the same.

Any thoughts on just how different they are? Where does that extra pound in the BMW tire come from...sidewall, compound? It's not the tire protector, checked images online and the Benz tires feature that as well. These PSS on the rear with the star spec on the front...how do we feel about that? They'd only be on for another about 10k miles until the fronts are gone.

Edit...Tire Rack's info chart. Star Spec on top, MO Spec on the bottom.

Unfortunately, I doubt anyone here could tell. I'm sure it's safe if the load rating is fine, but whether they are better or worse, only Michelin or Mercedes can answer. Maybe if someone has the time to do a really detailed comparison.

I'll repeat here what I replied in the M3/4 section:

The 265/35R19(M0) is a great front tire for the F8X, since it was specifically designed as a front tire for a RWD car with 9" wide front wheels. I used that tire on my 2015 M4 paired with the F10 M5 295/35R19(*) rear tire and it was a great combo.

However, this tire is likely suboptimal as a rear tire. I cannot talk about the specifics of this tire, but my research has taught me that front and rear specific tires have different contruction to generate the dedired behaviour. For example, front tires usually have a rounder contact patch to favor turn-in, response and sttering feedback whereas rear tires have a squarer contact patch for improved longitudinal traction and lateral stability. This difference in contruction is what contributes to the weight difference.

If you really want to stick with the PSS, better stick with the M2 specific BMW star spec one. It's the one optimized for your car.

Unless you're a track god you'll likely not notice any difference at all.

Take the deal.
