It was clear from your post that you are speaking in a facetious manner, but it wasn't clear whether or not you were nevertheless aware that this is the same routine we usually go through. So, in case you had perceived this to be a unique set of events specific to the M2: it isn't. BMW commonly completely reveals new products online and to the press before their official, public, in the flesh debut. When they say "World Debut" - they always refer to this latter situation, at least in recent years and in current parlance.

I agree that it's slightly corny in this day and age to make the distinction between these various different stages of product reveal. But BMW isn't the only one that does this either.
