If the rear drive shafts are the same as the Golf R, they're about the size of a #2 pencil, so maybe they're just being smart by fitting wider tires to the heavier end and the one that gets more torque. GM did it on the fwd V8 Impalas.

I just still can't imagine they'd go that route. Then again, who knows. Guess we'll see soon.
Also, the Impala SS didn't have staggered sizes. Only the Grand Prix GXP did.
