Oil Viscosity

Regarding oil viscosity on these engines, since BMW has spec'd oil as heavy as 10W-60 in the S65 V-8 (E9X M3), they aren't afraid to sacrifice fuel economy for outright protection...IF the engine is designed for that particular viscosity. According to an engine builder I know that does work on BMWs and other high performance engines, there is an enormous dependency on oil for valvetrain sensors, hydraulic operation, etc...even the oil capacity is measured by passing the oil through a spectral sensor at elevated RPM. All of this is dependent on the viscosity for flow characteristics, proper pressure at certain RPMs, etc.

I'd stick w/the 0W-30, w/the highest quality group IV synthetic you can buy (Redline, Motul, Royal Purple, etc.) and change it often.

Any oil analysis results out there by anyone on the M2 N55?
