Thanks. A simple search for "bass" turned up some relevant but unhelpful information confirming nobody really knows why it happens. Some said heat but it happened to me after getting into the car that had been sitting in the shade in 70 degree F cool weather for hours. A quick turning off and on didn't fix it rather as the threads say you have to turn it off, leave it for a few minutes and then it should be fine once you turn it back on. I live in Florida and I've had the car all through the hotter summer so heat doesn't sound like the trigger. As all the threads conclude...it's just frustrating and nobody can trigger the problem on demand which is most likely why it will never be addressed.
Agreed, doesn't seem to be heat related and unfortunate no one (including my dealer) has been able to figure it out. Like most trips to the dealer for an issue, they have to be able to recreate it and unfortunately, the bass dropping off is totally random.
