OK, let's say 8 years. First N55 application was the 2010 model 535iGT, build dates in 2009. Figure it was around a year or two before it ended up in a car on offer. The M2 hits the market in 2016.

But never mind - the point is that, by that time, BMW will be moving away from the N55 in nearly every other application. I have no inside information, but it seems odd to me that they would use it for an M car at that point in its lifecycle.

Having said that, I have an N55 in my F10 and I think it is wonderful.
