No expense was spared on the Neon  Frame vs frameless is purely an aesthetic decision by the manufacturer.

: True story. Apparently Same for the 2005 Subaru Legacy i owned.
Personally It's much more annoying on a four door sedan for me. I just had a habit of using the door frame on a sedan door to close it.
I don't notice the issue on coupes as much.
