BMW, Porsche, Audi and Merc are permanently checking each other out, as they fish in the same pond of customers who don't mind flip-flopping brands.

Competitors having 400hp cars in the works is good news, because that will induce BMW to up the ante with the M2.

During 1M launch (Spring 2011) the UK BMW website showed a table comparing the BMW 1M v. Audi TT RS Coupé v. Porsche Cayman S. For comparo test drives back in those days, journalists noticed that Porsche systematically provided the better performing (and more expensive) Cayman R instead of the Cayman S (see also for example here). Needless to say that the Cayman S was no match for the 1M.
