I think it went down like this...the diff manufacturer contacted BMW telling them they fucked up (wrong material, gage out of calibration, out of spec) a certain lot of diffs, qty 202, used in some of their M cars. Just to make sure one doesn't slip through the cracks they put a stop delivery on all M''s manufactured during that time. If they had multiple lots sitting on the shelves waiting for assembly then some cars will have the defective diffs, some won't. They should at least get which ones are good or not sorted out fast.
