A 991.2 or GT4 are basically my dream cars. I have only had the chance of driving a 996 a couple times over 10 years ago but everything was just "right" with the car and it made quite an impression. I say keep the 911 and the R for now given your needs.
I just sold my R and have said it is not the most fun car but it is a very solid choice if you have multiple cars, not sure why everyone is saying sell it. Great if you need a AWD 4-door and it being a hatchback just adds to the utility. Also can be a very quick car, guys are spending a couple grand to do FBOs w/ JB4 & Flash tune stack and running 11s on the stock turbo (full interior and street tires). IMO that makes a great sleeper/DD.
