Not sure about this. I haven't tried the 2017 models, but rent 2016 Fords all the time and I think the SYNC is 'meh'. Maybe it improves if you use it all the time.
Is yours a MY2016 with the old iDrive?
Sadly, my 10 days with my M2 before it went into hibernation did not give me time to form an impression of the iDrive 5.0
