It's not just snow. Ice or black ice presents a much larger risk than snow. There's also incline/decline that some have to deal with. Performance winter tires could have a difficult time rolling from a stop on slippery incline; same is true for stopping while rolling down a slippery decline and/or under sudden hard braking.

It is very dependent on the individual's commute and surrounding, and his/her adversity to risk for reward. I don't think there's a blanket answer for everyone. Heck, I haven't reconciled this dilemma for myself lol
