Regardless, when comparing the 2016 vs 2018 and the only difference is the gauges and the tail lights but other than that almost identical cars?! id definitely go used if it has all those extra bits and low miles.

It says 9k miles in the thread title. I agree your buddy got a nice deal but I don't think the offer the OP is/was looking at is a good deal - a car that stickered for about $57k when new and they want $50k for it used with 9k on it. The car in that case is worth less than $50k, even with those extra bits that may be desirable to some but add no market value.
The 2018 also got LED headlights and an all-new dashboard, as well as the availability of a moonroof in the US model for the first time, in addition to the new gauges and slightly different tail lights you mention.
