The 1M wasn't a "bargain" M car... it was a no-nonsense, no frills quintessential driver's car... The fact that it was $48k, was because it offered nothing but the essentials, 6m, lsd & engine.
The M2 will be based on the M235i/M235i R and will start roughly at $52~54. CF roofs are MUCH cheaper to make now and will only add to the value of the car, not it's price.
Don't forget.. the M2 has to compete with other cars.. not just the M4, which is irrelevant at this point.
