Actually I do care! Yes initially I tried to respect the 5500. Not too boring but
after several laps I am sure i exceeded the recommended max rpm.

I did debate whether to do this.... engine breakin requirements are of two camps....drive it as per the BMW manual... drive it like you stole it.... I think most agree that the M-diff requirement breakin is "stricter", more seem to agree to take it easy on the diff, than the engine breakin requirements.

Since the diff was being replaced under the M-diff recall anyway I figured what the heck. Engine had a good 700-750 miles of nonspirited driving prior to the 100 or so track miles.

Tires, PSS, took a beating and were an obvious giveaway with all the marbles and threads still stuck to the rubber. I did have the brake fluid flushed along with the breakin oil change.

Service guys didn't seem to bat an eye. They asked how she did on the track.

Unfortunately because of the diff replacement I have another 1200 mile breakin period.
