265/40/18 = 26.3" overall diameter. This matches the OD of the 19" OE rear tires, but it is too tall for the front. The 245/35/19 (OE front size) = 25.7" overall diameter. We would not be able to recommend or guarantee 265/40/18 for the front of the car.
The average 265/35/18 = 25.3" overall diameter, which is why we recommend this size.
It looks like the R-S4 tends to run a little short and wide. Here are the specs for comparison:
Hankook Ventus R-S4:
265/35/18 - 25.1" OD - 11.0" section width - 9.8" tread width
275/35/18 - 25.4" OD - 11.2" section width - 10.2" tread width
Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R:
265/35/18 - 25.3" OD - 10.7" section width - 9.7" tread width
275/35/18 - 25.6" OD - 10.9" section width - 10.0" tread width
