Yep, that's it. More weight, and in the worst place, plus reduces headroom, adds failure points, more complexity etc... I want the car to be as light and simple as possible. I usually get cars as "stripped" as I can get them, then lighten them some more - lighter battery, lighter exhaust, lighter wheels, get rid of underhood plastics and sound deadeners, take out any spare, tools, rear floor mats, even brake backing plates etc., sometimes swap out the front seats for race buckets... On my older used cars, I usually took out the AC also, but don't do that anymore now that I live in TX lol. The lighter the better in all metrics except sound deadening I suppose. I'd get a manual too, but they don't offer it here. I suppose its why I find building race cars from street cars so satisfying.... I take a LOT of stuff out (got a LS400 down to 3000lb, and my AE86 RWD Corolla down to 2000lb)
