But ASD does not accurately measure load under all conditions so will give misleading feedback. For example it comes on disproportionately loud in response to only minor throttle application. This is not reflecting actual engine and exhaust response. So why is that a good thing?

Even with the windows up and interior sound deadening materials, the ASD masks what you would otherwise be able to hear of the engine and exhaust. Your brain naturally recalibrates listening sensitivity to its immediate environment, adjusting to the loudest sound source (speakers). So your hearing is being hijacked - entirely by artificial means.

ASD is supposed to provide some "expected" in-cabin engine sound. And yes it produces a plausible enough sounding drone noise for most people, but it's not reproducing the engine sound of the car you are actually driving. As sophisticated as ASD is, it's still a stop gap engineering effort. And the problem of a faithful engine sound reproduction remains.
