M car is defined by the overall package.
Your 3,800 lb figure is a little off. The actual weight difference between the 1M and E92 is about 230 lbs.
As for torque-less V8, it still out accelerates the 1M in 0-60, 0-100, 0-130, 1/4 mile etc. Dr. Kay's anecdote regarding the 1M's horsepower falling off after 5,500 rpm can be applied to the S65 as well, "Shift!". But in the case of the S65 it's downshift as opposed to upshift for the 1M.
