Any chance that the M2 will get the *open* side vents that were initially scheduled for the 1M but didn't make it to final production because of constraints ?

Back in 2010 the ///M division couldn't get the fender sheet stamping molds accurate enough within the allotted 1M time/budget: accurately mirroring the two fenders sides with functional vents proved to be a PITA.

If the M2 prototype features real functional (open) side vents, then this could explain the out-of-place bolted-on part on the front fenders: hide this novelty + keep the air flowing through these vents.

There seems to be equally a bolted-on part on the rear of the M2 prototype. So, while they're at it, they can fit some rear vents as well (M235i versus 1M):
